A five-month closure of the footpath crossing Loe Bar has begun to allow a new flood prevention scheme to be put in place.

However, while the official footpath will be shut 24 hours a day, including weekends, from now until September 30, the Environment Agency has confirmed that the public will still be able to access and cross the Bar during this time.

The stretch in question is Footpath 6 (Porthleven) and Footpath 4 (Gunwalloe).

Over the coming months the Environment Agency is to expand the culvert that discharges water from the River Cober and Loe Pool into the sea, in a bit to prevent the water backing up during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding parts of Helston, in particular the St Johns area.
