The body of a woman has been pulled from the water at Porthleven this morning following an incident involving two lifeboats, police and coastguards.

Coastguards from Porthleven and Mullion joined both the inshore and offshore Penlee lifeboats and police after concerns were reported for the welfare of a 47-year-old woman.

Penlee Lifeboat confirmed that both the inshore lifeboat Mollie and Ivor Dent, and its offshore lifeboat the Ivan Ellan, were launched from Newlyn just after 7am today.

They were later spotted hunting the coastline around Loe Bar and Porthleven Beach, at the request of coastguards.

The body was recovered shortly afterwards.

It is understood the woman's family has been informed.

A spokesperson for Penlee Lifeboat said: "This was a very difficult shout for both our volunteer crews this morning.

"As always, they dealt with the situation in a calm, compassionate and professional manner, giving assistance to the Devon & Cornwall Police and Porthleven Coastguard Rescue Team who were both on scene.

"We await a full statement from the police in respect of this incident."

Mullion Coastguard said the team's thoughts were with the woman's family and a friends.
