The latest production from ACT1 in Helston will have you singing and dancing in the rain, or the sun, depending on what the weather decides to do this half term.

The youth theatre group is staging the junior version of classic musical Singin’ In The Rain all this week at the Epworth Hall, opening Wednesday.

It is directed and choreographed by Ashley Chinn, in his debut as director of the group, following his success as their musical director in previous years.

Regulars lead actors include Treve Benney as Don Lockwood, played by Gene Kelly in the film, Harry Charleston as Cosmo Brown and Sarah England as Lina Lamont, with Amy Galloway taking on her first leading role as Kathy Selden, the role made famous by Debbie Reynolds.

The show also features Kirstin Palmer as Dora Bailey and Olivia Duval as RF Simpson, with other members of the group taking on smaller roles and the ensemble parts in a cast of 44 actors.

The young team have been working hard since September to prepare the show, tackling changes to directors and how the group is run.

The junior version of the musical has been adapted to make the script suitable for young people and also supports the school curriculum but still features the same classic storyline and songs that audience members will know and love.

ACT1’s production runs from Wednesday through to Sunday at 7.30pm each day, with an additional matinee performance on Saturday at 2pm.

Tickets can be bought from Heathercraft Fabrics in Coinagehall Street, or from the box office by calling 01326 619585 or emailing epworthbookings@aol.co.uk.

Singin’ In The Rain follows the group’s hugely successful production last year, when they performed Les Miserables School Edition to rave reviews.
