Children walking to school were allegedly followed by a slow-moving car in Porthleven less than 24 hours after a female jogger also reported being "stalked."

Porthleven Primary School put out a warning on its Facebook page regarding the alleged incident last week, asking parents to "remain vigilant."

Writing last Friday, shortly before pupils broke up for the half term break, the school said staff had been told of a car slowing down as it approached children walking to class at the start of that day, with the driver attempting to speak to the youngsters.

The school wrote: "We have received reports this morning of an unidentified car slowing down and trying to engage in conversation with children walking to school.

"This has been reported and we ask parents, as always, to remain vigilant when dropping off and picking up children."

Due to the school being closed over half term, no one was available to comment further.

However, concerned parents and residents have commented on the post, describing the alleged incident as "such a worry."

One pointed out: "Please don't just keep an eye on your own children when they go to / leave school, or are outside playing. Keep an eye on their friends too."

Meanwhile police have been involved with a similar incident that was said to have taken place in the village only the night before.

Also writing on Facebook, Kate Morris claimed she had been "stalked" while out running in the Shrubberies Hill area of the port with her dog last Thursday evening.

She wrote just before 9.30pm: "Just got 'followed' / 'stalked' along Shrubberies Hill in Porthleven on a run with Jazz."

Mrs Morris described the vehicle as a blue BMW 320 series, with a Y registration plate, although she added that she was "pretty sure [it was a] fake plate."

The incident has been logged with police and was "being taken seriously" according to Mrs Morris, who said: "If anyone else experiences the same, I've been told if it happens again then call 999."

In response to dozens of messages of concerns from her friends and fellow residents of Porthleven, she added: "I felt like I was being silly but it's really shaken me and they said the same, so I'm glad I reported. I can't sleep keep thinking about it."
