A charity helping feed the most vulnerable people in Helston and the Lizard has vowed to "keep focused" after thieves stole two of its collection tins.

The money was taken from the Open Door community cafe run by the Mustard Seed in Wendron Street, Helston.

The tins had been collecting for the Helston and Lizard Foodbank, which provides food packages to the area's most struggling families and individuals.

Writing on social media yesterday, a member of Mustard Seed said: "I know times are hard - but stealing two charity collection tins from a charity that supports the most vulnerable in our community is just not on. If you had asked I would have fed you or helped in anyway I could have."

In response to concerned comments, the Helston and Lizard Foodbank added: "We at the Mustard Seed do find it hard when things like this happen...but we just need to keep focused and keep helping helping those who need it."

It is the first time in eight years that the foodbank's charity boxes have been stolen.

Speaking to the Packet, Mustard Seed development manager David Williams said: "It's one of those things that happens. We'll continue to support people, no matter what. People are obviously desperate, but we'll keep supporting them."

He estimated that the tins probably contained around £30 in each one.
