Cornwall will welcome royalty next week when the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall begin their annual summer tour of the westcountry - and there is speculation they could even be coming to Porthleven.

Advance road closure signs have gone up around Porthleven Harbour and although there has been no official comment on the reason for the traffic ban on Wednesday, July 19, gossip is rife on social media that it could be a royal visit.

This is largely due to Clarence House announcing that Prince Charles and Camilla will be nearby on that date, coupled with a "save the date" notice going online for a Porthleven event taking place that morning.

Porthleven Market is hosting an "expo" of the best of west Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly's producers between 10am and noon, showcasing their products to potential high-end London buyers and promoting the Cornish Express rail freight link between Penzance and Paddington as a way to reach new markets.

The area's MP, Derek Thomas, has even gone so far as to write on the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce website: "As well as attracting the cream of west Cornwall and Scilly’s producers, we’ve also managed to secure a high profile guest of honour who will be able to support us making a difference."

Rightly or wrongly, the two things have been linked on Facebook, with people speculating on the Porthleven page that the closure is in honour of Prince Charles and others replying "it's a secret."

It has been confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall will be just a few miles way in Truro next Wednesday, visiting Great Cornish Food, the independent grocery that is based in part of the new Waitrose store on the outskirts of the City.

As patron of Macmillan Cancer Support, Prince Charles will also visit the new Cove Macmillan Support Centre based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, meeting staff, patients and cancer specialists and watching a 'Look Good Feel Better' workshop providing provide support for women and teenagers suffering with the visible side effects of cancer treatment.

Meanwhile the Duchess of Cornwall will visit the new Truro headquarters of aid charity ShelterBox, which relocated from Helston last summer and which she has been president of since 2007. She will meet staff, supporters and school children making use of the charity's new visitor's centre, which provides a visual demonstration of the way in which ShelterBox provide aid around the world.

She will also visit Caterlink, a Cornish business specialising in ice cream cones, toppings, decorations and accessories, at its factory in Bodmin.

The following day, the second of three in the Duchy, the royal couple will spend their time in Devon, before returning to Cornwall on the Friday when they award prizes to the winners of a hanging basket competition at Tregunnel Hill in Newquay, houses built on Duchy of Cornwall land, and attend a neighbourhood event on the village green to help celebrate her birthday a few days earlier.

The Duchess will also visit the Newquay headquarters of Cornwall Air Ambulance, of which she is patron, for its 30th anniversary.
