Helston Rotary have enjoyed a shake-up recently as the group appointed a new president and vice president, at the same time as a new member joined the club.

Tim Grattan-Kane was announced as the new president, taking over from Vince Grispo, at an event at the Paris Hotel in Coverack.

As has last job as acting president, Vince donned his market stall hat and sold off some greengage jam to raise funds for PolioPlus, a charity offshoot of the Rotary Foundation.

Supporting Tim as vice president will be Brian Curtis, who will service the group for three months before handing over the position to another member.

Tim had a successful career in the Metropolitan Police, ending up as detective chief inspector before becoming a Helston town councillor and volunteer at Helston Museum.

The group also welcomed a new member, Amanda Boxer, who joined on Thursday evening.

Amanda is described as a ‘great asset to the club’, and will be part of the Youth Service Committee.

A former pupil of St Michael’s, Helston Grammar School and then Helston School, Amanda later trained to be a teacher and taught at St Mary’s College in Cheltenham.

She finished her working life as a senior lecturer in counselling, sports coaching and management, heritage tourism management and public services in April 2013.

She was then appointed as project assistant to the town centre manager and public realm officer for Helston Town council.
