At nearly 80,000 words and featuring more than 500 pictures, the title of a new book "Porthleven – A Comprehensive History" could not be more apt.

The book is the result of tireless work by its author Tony Treglown, yet its launch next week will now take on an extra poignancy.

Tragically, Tony died suddenly and unexpectedly last week, just a few days before he would get to see his book published to the world.

His wife Hazel, however, has decided to carry on with the launch as a tribute to her "kind and gentle" husband.

Porthleven boy Tony wrote his first book about the port, inspired by his collection of postcards, in 2000 whilst living in Wiltshire, as he spent his working life up country and abroad.

Returning home after retirement, he wrote another dozen or so booklets on various aspects of the village and, despite being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, he researched and compiled this mammoth history of Porthleven.

Featuring cover photographs by acclaimed Porthleven photographer Carla Regler, the hardback book will go on sale at a a special launch event Carla's gallery in Chapel Terrace on Saturday, August 5.

The comprehensive index, which features a range of photographers and looks at families from the port over the decades, includes 24 individuals with the surname Williams and 21 Pascoes, so is likely to appeal to a wide variety of readers, including locals and family tree researchers. Many of the pictures included have not been published before.

After the launch the book will be available from the Albatross Gallery, Carla Regler’s gallery in Chapel Terrace and Seadrift Kitchen Cafe among others, costing £27.
