If you're heading into Helston later this week you might not want to wear your favourite clothes.

This Friday and Saturday, two artists in the Helston Museum area will be approaching passersby asking if they can cut a diamond-shaped piece of fabric from the clothes they are wearing.

People’s responses to this enquiry will determine the outcome of 'Two Itinerant Quilters' - a new project exploring the memories and history attached to our clothes. It also aims to connect people from all over the world via the things they wear.

The inspiration behind the project is the long-lost profession of the 18th century travelling quilters, who would stay with families in order to create patchwork quilts from old clothing and rags found at each home.

The artists have already done this in the US but not with a UK audience, so are interested to see if the reaction will be any different here.
