THE family of a woman who received 'amazing' treatment at the Royal Cornwall Hospital have been thanked for their generosity after raising over £2,000 for the Mermaid Centre.

Family members Sally Dawson, Carol Jewell and Angela Dawson from Methleigh Farm, Porthleven, presented the cheque to Clinical Nurse Specialist and team lead Sarah Zee.

“We decided to hold a barn dance at our farm to raise funds for the Mermaid Centre” explains Sally, who was a driving force behind the donation. “The barn dance took place on July 15, 2017. Our reason for doing this was that my sister-in-law, Carol Jewell, had recently received amazing treatment at the Mermaid Centre.

"We were all so overcome by the level of support and compassion that Carol had received from the team that it seemed like the very least we could do to show our gratitude and appreciation.”

The family were left overwhelmed by the generosity of all those that attended, as people, businesses and organisations from across Porthleven and Helston donated raffle prizes for the event.

“Even people that couldn’t come along to the event made donations” explains Sally. “Like us, they wanted to show their appreciation for all the fantastic work that staff at the Mermaid Centre do to support their patients.”

The family were pleased to present a cheque for £2450.60, adding: “We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for looking after Carol, and all the other people in your care.”
