This Monday will see one of the biggest ever Helston Fatstock Shows take place in the town.

Not only will there will be cattle and sheep stock judging, farm produce in the form of corn, roots and vegetables, a large domestic section of cookery, photography, crafts, YFC and children’s entries, but this year more than 30 craft and produce stallholders have signed up to take part.

The show takes place at its usual venue of recent times, Franchis Farm on the Helston to Wendron road, by kind permission of Bob Cowell who this year is providing a brand new shed to bring all the activities under one roof.

There is free entry to the whole community, with no farming background needed, from 10.30 am, when the stock judging will begin and the domestic entries available to view once judging is completed.

Then, at 3pm, there will be a large auction of items and vouchers donated by businesses and individuals from all over the county, all being sold in aid of Cornwall Air Ambulance – the charity chosen by this year’s show president, Don Cowell. The afternoon will also include the prize giving to the winning owners and entrants of the various classes.

Tesco Helston currently has posters on display in store created by pupils from Garras, Sithney and Godolphin primary schools to promote the show and some of the children will visit on the day as part of their Farm to Fork curriculum topic. Nickki Walker, community champion at the store, will guide them around the show and speak to them on the subject of Food and Farming.
