The National Trust is warning people to stay away from the coastal cliff path between Porthleven and Loe bar after it collapsed into the sea following Storm Eleanor

The path is now closed as it is unsafe following a cliff fall and closure notices have been posted. There is a diversion route along footpaths through the Penrose estate.

The trust posted on their Twitter account: "The coastal path between Porthleven and Loe Bar is now closed after a cliff fall has made the path unsafe following the recent wet and stormy weather. National Trust and Cornwall council staff are working together to ensure public safety.

"Please avoid this area, the waves are still very large and causing ongoing damage. We ask that people respect the closure notices and do not attempt to use this stretch of path.

"There is a diversion route along footpaths through Penrose which will be signposted today and we will be looking at a longer term solution for a new coastal path route."

Meanwhile, council workers have been at Portreath Harbour after a 40 foot chunk of the sea wall collapsed during Storm Eleanor yesterday.

They are shoring the sea defences badly damaged by the sea during yesterday's storm surge.

Council and Cormac staff have been working dealing with the aftermath of Storm Eleanor including more than 40 fallen trees and localised surface water flooding throughout Cornwall.

A spokesperson said: "Most of the work has been in Portreath following the collapse of the harbour wall to the western side of the village's main car park. A section of the car park is currently closed.

"Council and Cormac crews are clearing debris from the collapsed wall.

"The community has a local flood plan in place in Portreath and the flood co-ordinators will be contacting residents to offer support and advice."
