Inconsiderate parking potentially put lives at risk in St Keverne on Friday.

Two cars parked either side of the road by the public toilets, at the entrance to the village square, meant there would not have been enough room for a fire engine or other emergency service vehicle to get through if needed.

St Keverne Fire Station crew manager Steven Hiorns has since issued a warning on social media, describing it as “a very serious issue.”

He said one car had been parked by the village notice board and the other on the opposite side of the road.

“If the crew got called on a shout the fire engine would not [have been] able to get past.

“Please think before you park up and walk away from your car. It might be you we are responding to - think before you park,” he added.

Similar concerns have been raised in Coverack, where vans are said to be parking at the top of the hill by the primary school, causing access difficulties - and leading to fears the issue will only intensify when the tourist season hits.
