Easter Sunday saw two records being broken at this year's Poldhu Duck Race: the most amount of money ever raised and possibly the wettest year yet.

One benefit of the pouring rain was, at least, that there was plenty of water in the river to sail the ducks down

This year more ducks than ever before were sold by the cafe - 1,800 to be precise, for £1 each.

This meant that, when combined with the money raised from a tombola, glitter hair stall, homemade cake stall, sale of bubble wands and general donations on the day, a grand total of £2,444.15 was raised for the charity Children's Hospice south West.

Despite the weather, hundreds of people still turned out to support the event and see their duck cross the finish line - although there were rather more wellies and umbrellas than shorts and sun hats this year.

Ross and Natalie Hocking, owners of the Poldhu Beach Café, said: "We'd like to thank everyone who attended, even in the soggy Cornish weather. It was the biggest total ever raised at the event and we would like to thank all our staff for helping put on such a great event, with lots of local and tourist support."

Prizes were once again supplied by Trenance Chocolate Factory, which made 16 giant chocolate eggs as prizes for the winners.

Customers of the Poldhu Beach Café donated homemade cakes, tombola prizes and money to the event, and Ross and Natalie also thanked them all, as well as Trenance, for their support.
