Flambards mascot, Ferdi the Fox, dropped in on a special barbecue to help raise money for forces charity Help the Heros.
The event was organised by the Friends and Family of Culdrose raising around £1,600 for the charity as well as providing summer fun for local forces families - some of whom have loved ones fighting in Afghanistan. By chance it coincided with the country’s first national Armed Forces Day.
More than 300 people went along to the Culdrose Community Centre on the naval airbase in Helston and, as well as a barbecued feast, were treated to a bouncy castle, face painting, a huge raffle and a visit from the crew of the base fire fighting team with their Royal Navy Rapid Intervention Vehicle.
Flambards general manager, Bill Finlay, said the event had been a roaring success further enhanced by the magnificent weather.
“It’s really important to us all at Flambards that we support the Friends and Families of Culdrose, not just because they are loyal guests of ours but also because we want to show our appreciation of the difficult job our forces are doing.”
