Money donated at the funeral of a woman who was a ray of sunshine in both Porthleven and Helston has fittingly been presented to the Sunrise Appeal.
Janet Groom, from Parc Ledden in Helston, died from metastatic breast cancer in March, after suffering from the disease for over 12 months.
At her funeral the family asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Sunrise Centre, where her family said she received “wonderful care and treatment.”
Mrs Groom was born and raised in Porthleven before moving to Helston with her husband Brian in 1977, where they remained until her death at 63.
She was a popular figure in both towns and had a wide circle of friends – something that became even more clear when £3,000 was collected at her funeral.
The money has now been presented by her husband Brian to Frances Coventry of the Sunrise Appeal.
Mr Groom and his family have thanked everyone “who gave so generously for such a worthy cause.”
