Children from St Martin pre-school have been learning about Spain, in a weeklong celebration of Spanish culture organised by pre-school assistants.
The children spent the week learning Spanish words, trying Spanish food and learning about Spanish culture.
To finish the week with a bang, the pre-school organised a mass food fight in an imitation of the Spanish festival La Tomatina which traditionally is on the last Wednesday of August.
The festival is held in the Spanish town of Brunol and attracts up to 50,00 people every year to fight in the streets with over 100 metric tons of tomatoes. The battle goes on for an hour before being stopped by the firing of several water cannons, after which everybody pitches in with the cleaning up.
Vanessa Glossop, organiser of the event, said “This allowed the children to get messy – and all in the context of Spain, which they had been learning about.
“What child does not want to have a food fight, but it is not allowed? This event gave them the chance to do it, but in a safe, controlled way.”
