Lizard to host Sport Relief mile

Toddlers and hardened runners will be joining together at Lizard Village for the most southerly charity run in the UK.

For the first time an official Sport Relief Mile is taking place at The Lizard, on Sunday, March 21.

The run will set off at 11am from the Lizard lighthouse car park, after being officially opened by Cornwall Council leader Alec Robertson, who is also the councillor for Helston north ward.

It is in aid of Sport Relief, with all the money being spent by the Comic Relief charity to help disadvantaged people in the UK and the world’s poorest countries.

The Lizard run has been organised by Cornwall Council’s Helston and Lizard Community Network, which has been working with the National Trust, Helston Rotary, 3 Squadron Air Cadets, Landewednack parish council, Landewednack Primary School and the police.

Landewednack School pupil Billy Jane has designed a poster to advertise the race in the area, with Martin Luck Group printers in Helston sponsoring the printing of them.

Charlotte Chadwick, community network manager and organiser, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile at the Lizard is here and it’s your time to shine. From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock there’s something for everyone on the big day – whether you do one, three or six miles. Best of all, the money you raise by getting sponsored will be used to transform lives forever.”

Runs are taking place around the country during Sports Relief three-day weekend, on March 19 to 21.
