The parents of a brave cancer victim from Trannack are literally going the extra mile this year to fundraise in memory of their daughter.

Ray and Yvonne Ashmore launched their Walking For Lindsay challenge at this year’s coffee morning, which they hold each year to mark her birthday.

Lindsay would have been 30 this year and to commemorate the landmark year her parents plan to complete the Wainwright Coast2Coast walk from St Bees, Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire – a distance of around 192 miles in 15 days.

Ray and Yvonne began the walk on Saturday and hope to complete it by June 2.

It will raise funds for Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust and Cancer Funding for Cornwall, which Lindsay was a keen supporter of during her illness, raising thousands of pounds.

The two charities have already benefited from this year’s coffee morning, at which friends and family of Lindsay helped raise £420.33. Combined with other donations received the total is now at £671.33.

Lindsay was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2005, but despite surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy she died on May 16, 2009 aged just 26.
