Storm puts on show at Porthleven

SPECTACULAR waves, high winds and beating rain are among the list of things you expect to see in Porthleven in winter.
But last week 70mph winds caused trees and branches to fall, weather warnings to be issued and massive waves battering Porthleven’s harbour walls, roads and homes – an ominous beginning to the summer.
Residents and spectators were advised to stay away from the harbour area and the road running alongside it was closed to prevent cars driving too close to the waves which were thrashing over the pier.
The town never fails to provide beautiful images as the seas stir and the popular surfing spot gets rougher – clean waves replaced by a sea of white, unpredictable waves battering the seaside homes and thrashing over the road which runs alongside, and these taken by Cllr Andrew Wallis are no exception.
These scenes could be relived this week as the Met Office is expecting strong winds to hit the whole of Cornwall again on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Met Office’s website has gusts of up to 32mph on Thursday, with Friday seeing gusts of 41mph.
