Members of the Helston-Lizard Inner Wheel Club have walked the extra mile to raise money for charity. The women took part in a sponsored five-day walk from the Lizard to Land’s End in May which, together with the proceeds from an evening event in Porthallow, raised an impressive £2,700. This has now been donated to autism charity Spectrum.

Recently-retired club president Anne Griffiths, accompanied by other ladies from the club, visited Spectrum’s Three Bridges School where they were shown around the facilities by headteacher Rebecca Edwards.

With three of the members from teaching backgrounds, they showed a keen interest in what the school had to offer children with autistic spectrum disorders.

Mrs Griffiths said: “We have certainly learnt a lot from our visit to this remarkable school. Rebecca has been most informative, and we are delighted to be able to help Spectrum in its work supporting people with autism.”

Denis Winder, Spectrum’s head of resources, said that the organisation was grateful to the Inner Wheel and all those who had supported their fundraising events.
