A celebration service was held on Sunday evening; Vicar Penny, parish priest for ten years, is retiring. The Rev Sharron, curate, welcomed the large congregation which was made up of members of various denominations. Breage and District Silver Band performed several musical items. Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah, was a great hymn to start the informal tribute.
Breage School was represented by a group which included children, teachers, helpers and Vicar Penney. Germoe and Godolphin schools read tributes, mainly thanks. The Rev Sharron read prayers, which was followed by the congregation singing Caribbean Lord’s Prayer. Church wardens reflecting on the same subject was a fascinating account which blended just like a jigsaw puzzle and led to the ‘official’ gifts of thanks, photographs, wall plates illustrating St Breaca, other items will soon be recognised as genuine memorabilia. Monetary cheques will no doubt be useful in retirement. The choir made up by singers from each of the churches in the parishes, sang ‘Lead Me Lord’ which Vicar Penny said was sung at her ordination and at other events during her calling as a minister. Other hymns sung during the service included ‘To God be the glory and How Great Thou Art. The food table was groaning with the weight, fortunately a large number stayed for refreshments!
