On Easter Seven Sunday we celebrated the 22nd anniversary of the formation of the old Methodist Breage and Sithney congregations into one unit.

The preacher was the Rev Geoffrey Thorpe, a retired Methodist minister, introduced by Stephanie Gordon who also read two additional notices. Paul Coombs was the worship leader and music was by Paul Jenkin, Mary Louise Combellack and Sarah Fuller.

The first song was “come, now is the time to worship”. Paul Coombs said Breaney Chapel is people, not just a structure of stone and mortar. He used an overhead projector as an important visual aid for his talk to the children. He also read the first prayer, the song “For I'm building a people of Power”. The offering was taken up by Peter Gordon.

At scripture time Stephanie G read Genesis chapter 17 v 1-8 and Helen Jenkin read Romans chapter 4 v 13-21. A hymn from the new Methodist Hymn Book was sung “let us build a house where love can dwell”. The sermon “...the God who calls into existence things that do not exist” (Romans chapter 4 v17). Another Song of Fellowship “Make me, Lord, a dreamer for your kingdom” was followed by prayers of intersession. The last hymn was so appropriate “Lord for the years, your love has kept and guided”'. It was anniversary and celebration as we said the Grace with joined hands around the chapel.

Helen Jenkin prepared the refreshments and later we enjoyed a fellowship lunch prepared by several of the church ladies, self-service style.

At evening service the minister, the Rev Beverly Turner, chose for the first hymn the same one used at the opening, of the newly renovated chapel 22 years ago.

All the hymns were from Hymns and Psalms. The Methodist Service Book was used throughout. The sermon commenced with a description of Stonehenge which was erected about four and a half thousand years ago with no modern mechanical assistance whatever, all the hard work must at the time have had a purpose, perhaps to worship the sun as many primitive people have done over the years. The believers in the Son of God have said Christ Jesus, who was crucified through hatred and three days later was raised from death, was forecasted many years previously.

Holy communion concluded the chapel anniversary.

There will not be an evening service at Breaney next week.
