On Pentecost Sunday Paul Coombs welcomed the congregation and read various notices.
He introduced Shirley Wearne, a local preacher and circuit steward, standing in for Neil Didlick. Also standing in was our friend Len Olds on electric piano and Mary Louise on flute. Paul and Helen were away at Winchester and Craig was 21 this week. All the hymns were from Songs of Fellowship.
Shirley displayed words on a visual aid with another 'set' which had to be matched, the first one was solar and panel which the girls and boys soon unravelled. The children then went downstairs.
The call to worship and the Bible readings came from: Helen M who read from 1 Corinthians chapter 12 then John chapter 10 read by Alan. Shirley read from a modern book starting with the Pentecost story and a meditation all from Acts chapter two. The message was preceded by a question “Who supplies your power?” Think about those first disciples enabled to preach and or interpret the Holy Spirit, that first message was heard and understood by a vast audience from many places with many dialects and language. There is no point in having gas and/or electricity installed if you don't wish to use it. This is what Pentecost is all about.
Downstairs later coffee and tea was dispensed by Paul Combellack and Anna Harrington. There was no evening service. On Sunday evening, Breaney will be closed again, so that the congregation can attend the Lizard and Mounts Bay Circuit Service at Porthleven Methodist Church, service at 6.15pm. The preacher will be the Rev Steve Wild, chairman of the Cornwall Methodist District.
