CROWAN CHURCH: Following the wonderful service on Monday, June 2 when the Rev Dominic Whitting was installed, the congregation was delighted to welcome Dom, to his very first service on June 8. He preached a wonderful service to a packed church. The music was played by Colin and the readers were Lynne and Jonathan. Lynne also read the prayers of intersession. The lovely flowers were arranged by Sheila and Amanda.

To celebrate Pentecost there was a service at Leedstown village hall, taken by Amanda and with Chad playing the music. Lessons were read by Chad, Paul and Allister. The Rev Dominic joined the congregation and the afternoon was concluded with a tasty Cornish tea.

During the afternoon the Rev Sharon Chalcroft welcomed into the church family baby Edward Heath who was brought by his family, Elizabeth, Jamie and George Heath, to be baptised.

The Meditation at Six service was led by Colin - everyone is very welcome to come along to this time of reflection.

On Sunday Fairtrade tea and coffee will be served before the service and everyone is welcome. On Saturday everyone is invited to the Strawberry Afternoon to be held at the home of Shelia and Amanda, Releath (TR14 9NN). There will be strawberry cream teas, a cake stall, bric-a-brac, plants and competitions to enjoy. The afternoon will go ahead whatever the weather brings. The craft and chatter group are meeting on Wednesday, June 18 in the Parish Rooms. They are making hats, jumpers, teddy bears and cot blankets for the Fish and Chip babies, so called because in Africa babies are sometimes wrapped in newspaper as there is no clothing. There is a box of wool and patterns at the back of church if you would like to knit. The group are also looking to collect children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste and underwear and there is collection box at the back of church. The group will be taking all that they have to the next collection on July 1 at Camborne Wesley.

NANCEGOLLAN VILLAGE HALL: There will be a Bingo evening on Friday. A raffle will be held and its "eyes down" at 7.30pm. Everyone welcome to come along and join in. Also on Saturday a car boot sale is being held beginning at 10.30am until 1.30pm. Tables cost £3.

SITHNEY COMMUNITY GROUP: The recent ladies Pebbles fun quiz night was so popular and well attended that another has been arranged, this time not just for ladies as everyone is invited. So come along to Carleen Village Hall on Saturday at 7pm. Refreshments will be available.

LITTLE BEEBLES PRE-SCHOOL: The pre-school in Praze will be holding an open afternoon on Wednesday, June 18 from 1.30-3pm. Pop along for a slice of cake and a chat about the childcare provided and see the facilities available. Please feel free to come during the open afternoon to see what there is have to offer. PRAZE GALA WEEK: The gala week begins on Saturday, July 5 at the St Aubyn Arms, with a barbecue including a raffle and 'The Village and the Club' quiz. The cost is £1 per player and there is a £20 first prize. On Tuesday, July 8 there is a fun evening at the Playing Field. The new vicar at Crowan, the Rev Dominic Whitting will get events underway. There is ferret racing, bouncy castle, penalty shootout, bowl the hole, ostrich egg shy, bin the ball, hit the rat, plus many more stalls and a barbecue. On Wednesday July 9, The 'Rodda's' cricket match will be held. A select 11 from Rodda's creamery play a Praze 11 for the coveted Clive Ford trophy on the playing field at 6.30pm.

On Thursday, July 10, the Grand Carnival takes place. This year’s judge and sponsor is Keith Pope of Releath, Keith who owns Offshore Marine Solutions has donated £250 which will go to the winners of the 'Simply the Best Young Persons group'. In addition there is also the best dressed pirate class with £50 to the winner.

Once again we have the best dog and owner or owners class, £25 to the winner sponsored by Geoff James. Owner or owners must be in fancy dress. The other classes are under 5's singles, pairs and groups; 6-11 years, singles, pairs and groups; 11-16 years singles, pairs and groups; adults singles, pairs and groups. Also best float. We also have a class for old tractors, a class for classic motorbikes and a class for vintage cars.

Judging starts at 6.30pm. The procession will leave the playing field at 7.30pm led by Hayle Storm Samba Band. Admission is 50p for adults, children are free. There is free parking. Carnival entries are free.

PRAZE FAIR SHOW: This year’s show is on Saturday, July 12 at the Show Field, Trefewha, Praze-an-Beeble. There will be field events, a Tent Section, livestock, fun dog show, beer tent and refreshments, trade stands, live entertainment and side shows.

The Horse Show and Gymkhana starts at 8.30am and the Exhibit Tent is due to open to the public at 3pm. The floral dance led by the Lanner Band will start at 1.30pm, which means that Station Hill and Fore Street right through to the Show Field will be closed to facilitate this. There will be musical entertainment from the Lanner Band and St Aubyn Singers. The fun dog show takes place at 3.30pm with entries from 3pm. On the show field there will be a display of vintage vehicles. The schedule for the tent section is now out and will be sent to last year’s entrants.

Full details of the classes are in the schedule and entrants are asked to note that the closing date for tent section and gardens competition entries is Monday, June 30. Holders of cups from last year are asked to return them with entries for this year’s show. All tent section entries need to be in place on show day no later than 9.45am and cannot be removed before 6pm. The presentation of cups will be at 5.30pm.
