METHODIST CHURCH: The service on Sunday was conducted by Dennis Bassett from Helston. His sermon was based on the story of the Pentecost and the gift of the Spirit. Mavis Harper was organist.

Coffee mornings continue in the schoolroom on Thursdays from 10am to 11.30am. There was a surprise on Thursday when scones, jam and cream were supplied by the village fete committee. Our thanks to all.

PRIMARY SCHOOL: Congratulations to the winners of the 100 Club for June – Mrs Rigg, Margaret Rowe and Rachel Bates and for July – Mr Snook, Mrs Evans and Mrs Forrester.

Thanks to all who donated on non-uniform day to Guide Dogs for the Blind. Ninety-five pounds was raised for this worthy cause. The children enjoyed meeting Nickki the guide dog and her owner, Sue.

On a recent Friday afternoon a group of 16 children went to Mullion School to take part in the 2014 Feet Beat Dance competition. The KS2 team did a superb job and came fourth. The KS1 team came third and also one member, Edith-May, received a special award for being the smiliest dancer. Well done to them all, their behaviour and manners were excellent and they were fantastic ambassadors for the school.

An unexpected shower at lunch time on school sports day caused a brief scare, but the brave decision to go ahead was rewarded with glorious sunshine, perfect for the afternoon’s fun and games. The cake sale raised £83 and Little Dolphins Pre-School teas raised £70, thanks to all who donated.

This year’s event was officially opened by Great Britain and England International athlete, Emma Stepto, who kindly helped with the races and led a short warm up around the field. The warm up continued with a group of enthusiastic Year 6 pupils, who performed a dance for everyone else to join in.

Both Godolphin and Tregonning houses battled through a series of individual and team races, including a parent dressing up race and a number of challenging relays, with the youngest pupils being guided by the Year 6 sports leaders.

The day continued with a custom award ceremony with this year’s sports day trophy being presented to Tregonning Huse by Emma Stepto, along with some individual prizes for pupils who had demonstrated a commitment to PE and sport throughout the year.

All in all, the event was a huge success and the prize winners were: Ellie Kemp, Penny Forrester Cup for Sporting Endeavour; Harry Kirk, Sportsman of the Year; Lucy Williams, Sportswoman of the Year; Tom Rigg, Young Sportsman of the Year and Lucy Bryan, Young Sportswoman of the Year.
