Members met on October 9 and the meeting was opened by Crete, president. Yvonne, secretary read the minutes of the last meeting and gave the report of the council meeting.

Various topics were then discussed. The raffle was won by Marion and the competition winners for a silver spoon were: 1, Gillian; 2, Crete; 3, Maureen.

Sally Morgan gave a very interesting talk on her memories of her life in Africa when she was first married to Mike. Her husband had gone first and she followed later. Heathrow was a very different airport then when Nissan huts were the airport buildings. At one stage they went to a village where a white woman had never been seen before and the women stroked her face and hair. They shopped for a month at a time and possessions had to be protected from ants. When they came back for a holiday some friends from Africa came to visit them. Sally came back to Cornwall for the births of their two eldest children and the oldest was three when they returned to this country permanently.

Pat gave the vote of thanks and said everyone enjoyed Sally's talk.

Members then enjoyed the harvest supper.

The next meeting is on November 13 when Nigel Pascoe will give a talk “Student days at Wisley”. The competition is “A pot plant” and the vote of thanks is by Gillian with tea hostesses Adrienne and Jean.
