Jenni Frasers demonstration of Autumn Flower Arrangements was both very interesting and hands on as we followed her instructions; listening also to her many hints to help the flowers last longer.

She faultlessly showed us how to make a hand-tied bouquet, which when our turn came turned out to be quite tricky! Nevertheless everyone had a go and to our surprise our efforts looked very respectable.

Then everyone attempted a less formal bouquet which turned out to be impressive, so we felt really proud of ourselves when we left later on clutching our displays. For days later social visits in the village included comparisons and praise for the different results.

The competition for the best flower photograph was won by Fay Iliffe.

Our evening was capped by the surprise participation of Vi Body, one of the founder members of the village WI, who had come from Sandy, Bedfordshire to meet family and friends; having left to live with her daughter two years ago . Vi was full of smiles, is well and is still knitting jumpers for refugee children.

To join the WI please contact secretary Margot Sawle on 01736 762334.

The social evening Wartime Memories is on Thursday, November 13.
