The welcome on Sunday morning was by Stephanie Gordon, vestry steward, with the Rev Beverly Turner as preacher and Paul Coombs worship leader, who had picked the first two hymns or songs.

He read a prayer with congregational responses and told an action story about a Christian, with some action play. The congregation prayed for the children, teachers and helpers.

He also read psalm 139 in the New Revised Version of the Holy Bible. Our minister’s sermon included searching for something in the dark and drew much from the Psalm read, believed to have been written by David, who had been a shepherd boy - we can invite God to search our hearts, we cannot ask God to search other people’s hearts. The heart is the engine of the human body, pumping our life blood through our veins during our life span. Prayers of intercessions were said, also with a response.

The offering was taken up by Paul Coombs; holy communion was led by the minister and all the singing was from Songs of Fellowship with Paul Jenkin playing the organ and also played the bongos for the last hymn. In the kitchen Helen Matthews and Helen Jenkin prepared the tea and coffee.

The evening service was led by chapel member Sarah Fuller who asked the question “Where are you with God?” The call to worship came from Psalm 99, The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble. He sits enthroned between Cherubim and Seraphim.

The music started with Our God Reigns followed by the opening prayer and four hymns. Peter read Exodus chapter 33 v12-23, Father we adore you - Prayers of intercession - Father we adore you. Stephanie read Mark chapter 10 v 35-45; Mike read John chapter 1 v 16-24, 4 and 10-16. The offering was taken up by Sybil.

The next hymn was Draw me nearer and the sermon brought together Moses who was only permitted to see God’s back, whereas in the New Testament Moses and Elijah were shown talking with Jesus by some of the disciples as read in Matthew chapter 17.

The final hymn was Jesus Take me as I am.
