Sunday’s parish communion celebrated the feast of Christ the King, the summit of all the year’s festivals.

In her sermon, the Rev Dorothy Noakes looked at worldly kingship in contrast with that of Christ and found total opposites in perception and impact. Jesus is not for the powerful, but the poor and marginalised, with love and forgiveness at the heart of everything. Canon David Miller introduced the service and the Rev Jane Bradbury with Betty Booker, lay reader, assisted the Rev Dorothy, who presided at communion. Heather Thorn read the lesson and Diane Barlow led the prayers. There has been an excellent response to the appeal for volunteers to form a new choir and rehearsals are in hand for additional music at services in Advent and at Christmas.

The Christmas Fayre will take place on Saturday at the Andrew Hall, from 10am to 12.30pm.
