The first of the month also brought the beginning of the churches year, Advent Sunday. This meant lighting the first of five candles on the Advent wreath and the communion service was also adapted to include extra readings and more hymns than usual.
Canon David Miller presided was assisted by the Rev Dorothy Noakes, the Rev Jane Bradbury and Betty Booker, lay reader. In a short sermon, Canon David spoke of how Advent looks to the future as it will be according to God’s will, requiring us to always be awake and ready.
During the administration of communion, the regular choir was joined by six new members to sing an Advent anthem, a very welcome addition to the worship. The organist was Richard Berry and the choir was directed by Chris Bradbury. In the Andrew Hall, the Junior Church was preparing their Christmas play for performance later this month.
St Michael’s Christmas Fayre raised more than £500 for church funds.
