Parish communion on the second Sunday of Epiphany also marked the beginning of the week of prayer for Christian Unity.

Canon David Miller drew attention to the various events of the week, all designed to bring churches in Helston closer together. The Rev Jane Bradbury took up the theme in her sermon about the moment when Jesus, having been described as “the Lamb of God” by John the Baptist, invited the first of his disciples to “Come and see”. The common ground of all Christians is to follow Christ.

The Rev Dorothy Noakes presided at communion, assisted by Betty Booker, lay reader, with Michael Thomas reading the lesson and Canon David leading the prayers. After communion the chancel choir sang an arrangement of “Brightest and best of the sons of the morning” accompanied by Richard Berry, organist, and directed by Chris Bradbury.

Bishop Tim will be at St Michael’s on February 2 to conduct a service of confirmation with holy communion, which will begin at 10am.
