First Sunday all-age family communion celebrated March the month of saints, especially those of Celtic significance.

With St Piran’s Day coinciding with Ash Wednesday, the Rev Dorothy Noakes, who both presided and preached, chose to speak about St David, patron saint of Wales, whose life is swathed in legend but who, at his death, enjoined his followers to be joyful, keep the faith and do the little things they had seen him do, advice offering a fine pattern to this day.

Canon David Miller and Betty Booker, lay reader, assisted at the service, Janet Jones read the lesson and Michael Thorn led the prayers. There were two worship songs accompanied by Michael and Heather Thorn and Ken Murphy, keyboard, flute and guitar. Richard Berry accompanied hymns at the organ and sent worshippers on their way with a fine rendition of “Land of my Fathers”.

Lent begins on Wednesday and anyone needing information should telephone Canon David Miller on 01326 572516.
