The beautiful arrangements of flowers, artefacts and photos set up by town organisations to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One provided a magnificent backdrop to First Sunday all-age family communion.

The Bishop of St Germans both presided and preached at the service, assisted by Canon David Miller, the Rev Dorothy Noakes and Betty Booker, lay reader. Bishop Chris, making his first visit to St Michael’s, used the famous story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 to show how Jesus chooses to do his work in partnership with people and how, in the meal he has left us called the eucharist, he meets all our needs.

Maureen Grattan-Kane read the lesson and Michael Thorn led the prayers. Michael also played keyboard accompaniment, with Heather on flute and Ken on guitar, to two worship songs, while the hymns and voluntaries were played by Richard Berry at the organ.
