The Rev Dorothy Noakes presided at parish communion, which celebrated St Matthew’s Day. Canon David Miller preached, speaking of the uncompromising nature of both the call to Matthew and Jesus’ declaration that he came to save sinners.
Although our society sees compromise as good, Christians, responding with joy to God’s call, have principles that must be maintained unflinchingly. Betty Booker, lay reader, assisted at the service, Michael Thorn read the lesson and Andrew “Jake” Holyer led the prayers.
During communion, the choir sang Stanford’s arrangement of “O for a closer walk with God” directed by Chris Bradbury and accompanied by Richard Berry, organist.
