Canon David Miller both presided and preached at parish communion, assisted by Betty Booker, lay reader.
A saying that has passed into the language, “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s”, was part of the gospel reading and featured largely in the Rector’s sermon.
Having pointed out that there are two certainties in life – death and taxes – Canon David explained the religious and civil politics behind the attempt to trap Jesus which resulted in the famous saying quoted above. Of course, the truth was that the things that are God’s constitute everything, since He is the creator of all.
James read the lesson and Diane Barlow led the prayers. During communion, organist Richard Berry played a beautiful set of variations on “The King of love my shepherd is”.
