The Rev Dorothy Noakes both presided and preached at parish communion, with Betty Booker, lay reader, assisting.
Canon David Miller introduced the service and led the prayers. The gospel reading featured another tussle between Jesus and the Pharisees, this time resulting in Jesus setting out the foremost commandment which is to love God above all and to love your neighbour as yourself.
In her sermon, the Rev Dorothy set out some challenging ideas on how to obey the commandment with heart, soul and mind, but added that the secret is to want to live out the golden rule even if our attempt falls short.
Maureen Grattan-Kane read the lesson, Richard Berry was the organist and Chris Bradbury directed the choir in an anthem, A new commandment.
