First Sunday all-age family communion celebrated All Saints’ Sunday at the beginning of nearly two weeks of remembrance events.
Canon David Miller led the service, assisted by the Rev Dorothy Noakes and Betty Booker, lay reader. Part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, provided the theme for Canon David’s short talk.
Spreading a map of Helston and the Lizard on the floor, he said that, even as a map helps us find our way, the Beatitudes help us on the journey that leads to Heaven. They are not commands, but an invitation to find blessing even in the unlikeliest of circumstances. John Eddy read the lesson and music for hymns and songs was provided by Richard Berry and Heather and Michael Thorn.
During communion, Chris Bradbury directed the choir in the anthem “In the hour of my distress” by Peter Hurford.
