The Remembrance Sunday Service was led by the Rev Danny Reed and the worship leader was Edna Angove.

Mr Reed showed us one of the little tin boxes, supported by Princess Mary, given to all the troops serving in the First World War at Christmas 1914. Inside was a piece of chocolate and a cigarette and one or two other items. He also showed a copy of St Johns Gospel given to each soldier and some relatives of fallen soldiers.

These pocket sized booklets were instigated by Lord Robart and there was a space on the inside back cover for the soldier to read what was written and then sign his name and address if he accepted God into his life.

Before the two minutes’ silence, Tony Massey read “They shall grow not old…” and afterwards “In the morning …”, and Ben Reed sang a piece of “For the Fallen”. Mr Reed chose peace rather than remembrance for his sermon, and quoted “Peace is done – all we have to do is enter it”.

Mrs Angove read from the Bible and led the prayers of intercession, and the organist was Tony Ings.

During the service around 56 shoe boxes, having been decorated and made up by the Church family to be shipped out to children in other countries, including Sierra Leone, for Christmas, were blessed by Mr Reed before starting on their journey.

In the evening the Rev David Miller was in the witness box for the service led by Mr Reed.

A coffee morning at the home of Esme Wearne on Saturday raised £180 for Missions.
