Canon David Miller presided at parish communion, assisted by Betty Booker, lay reader.
The Rev Jane Bradbury preached, tackling the questions thrown up by Jesus’ “parable of the talents”. The master in the story is God and the servant who buries his talent is Israel, or, as we would see it now, ourselves.
What the story tells is that it takes time and effort to build God’s kingdom, using wholeheartedly whatever skills we have. Janet Jones read the lesson and Andrew “Jake” Holyer led the prayers.
During communion, Chris Bradbury directed the choir in John Rutter’s “The Lord bless you and keep you”, accompanied by organist Richard Berry.
St Michael’s Christmas Fayre takes place on Saturday, in the Andrew Hall, from 10am until 12.30pm, with a great variety of stalls. Everyone will be welcome.
