At the January meeting the parish council welcomed the news that a grant of £1,998 had been received from Cory Environmental Trust for the completed repair work to the West Wall of the Adit at Tresowes Hill.

The chairman and councillors thanked the clerk for his diligent work in securing this generous grant. It is hoped that repair work to the East Wall will be completed soon, however, this work is weather susceptible so we may have to be patient.

As soon as we receive clarification regarding positioning, we will be able to go ahead with the installation of a publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at Balwest.

Further projects under consideration for 2015/16 include improvement to the footpath approaching the War Memorial at Tregonning Hill, renovation or removal of the telephone kiosk at Trewithen Terrace, the provision of a bus shelter at Great Work and assistance with restoration work at Germoe Well.

No crime was recorded by the police in the Parish during the month of December. PCSO Whitford reported that there will be some restructuring of the Helston Neighbourhood Policing team following the recruitment of new Police Community Support Officers. We are asked to keep an eye out for any unusual behaviour, and to report suspicious activity to the Police on the telephone contact number 101 or the local answering machine service available on 01326 555158.

If you would like to find further information regarding any of these subjects, please contact the parish clerk Colin Chapman on 01326 221648 or speak to your local councillor. A list of all council members and their contact information can be found at www.germoeparishcouncil.org.uk .

PRAA SANDS & DISTRICT GARDENING CLUB Members were delighted to welcome Nigel Pascoe to our monthly meeting. He gave a most interesting and informative talk with plenty of practical demonstrations and hands on experiences on 'How to make full use of your greenhouse throughout the year.'

Growing seeds, taking various types of cuttings, potting on, growing and caring for a variety of plants were all dealt with in a professional manner with a friendly sense of humour. Nigel certainly knows his stuff but puts it over very well, which is why he is so well received.

Anna asked for suggestions for this year's outings and a list is in the throes of preparation.

Speaker for next month is Roy McBryde talking about 'Tresco with a Difference'. Members and visitors are most welcome on Monday, February 2 at the Community Centre at 2pm.

CHURCH OF ST GERMOE Rev Peter Johnson presided at the Parish Eucharist service on the second Sunday after Epiphany, assisted at the altar by Anna Harry and Sue Rayment with the chalices and Bette Owen and Chris McCormack as servers. The lessons were read by Andrew Bell and Kate Phillips; Muriel Somerfield led the intercessions; the organ was played by Jay Helmore; Tom Dearden and Muriel Somerfield were sidesmen and the sacristan was Chris McCormack.

Volunteers are wanted to go on the cleaning rota - if there are sufficient people it should be no more than twice a year and only involves dusting the pews and vacuuming the carpet.
