Members and visitors attended the harvest, auction and supper meeting this month.

Matters arising from our July meeting were dealt with and our treasurer told us we made £317.65p from our summer tea at Porthoustock, which will be split between Operation Christmas Child and the Air Ambulance. Several outings were arranged and a discussion took place regarding the content of our joint meeting in November. Our secretary informed us our subscription will go up again next year.

The next part of our meeting was our harvest service which this year was taken by Rob Markley from St Keverne Methodist Church. He combined scripture from the Bible that although we may sow the seed we may not be the ones to reap it with the work of the WI and we sang several harvest hymns. Rob also reminded us that in 1915 at the start of the WI in England subscriptions were two shillings! Following on from our service we had a pasty and saffron cake served by Kathleen Dewer and Hazell Savage and then we had an auction which was led once again by Derek Kevern. This was very entertaining, and there was lots of laughter at some of the descriptions of the more mysterious items Derek was auctioning. Our thanks go to Rob and Derek for taking part in our harvest meeting.

Our competitions this month were Flower: 1, Dorothy Kemp; 2, Kathleen Dewer; 3, Rita Kelly. A foliage arrangement: 1, Rita Kelly; 2, Marcia Williams.

Our meeting next month will take place on October 17 in St Keverne Methodist hall at 7.30pm. There will be a presentation by St Petroc's Society and the competition will be a knitted hat for an adult, which will then be donated to the society.

New members are always given a warm welcome and further information can be obtained from Rita Kelly on 01326 280498.
