The October meeting started with 25 members and several visitors. This month we started with our speaker Lesley Maullin who gave a very interesting talk on the work of the St Petroc Society, who work with the single, homeless between the ages of 16 and 65 in Cornwall. The people might be homeless for all sorts of reasons such as problems with drink or drugs or perhaps breakdowns of relationships or loss of homes and jobs. They have several stages of recovery and offer shelter with seven houses in different areas and outreach to some folk who would rather stay on the streets by offering showers, food and bedding.

The members were quite moved by the DVDs shown to us and asked Lesley lots of question while we had our cup of tea provided by Prue and Anne.

The remainder of the evening dealt with the business of the meeting and discussions on our group meeting on, the packing of boxes for Operation Christmas Child on November 8 at 10am at the Methodist Hall and the lunch club at Penventon on November 7.

Our Vice President Hazel Savage reminded the members that we have a trading stall, a thrift club and also where our Pennies for Friendship from our flower competition go, won this month by 1: Zoe Kevern; joint 2, Rita Kelly and Marcia Williams. The competition winners for the knitted hats to be donated to St Petrocs, were: 1, Pearl Woodyer; 2, Zoe Keverne; 3, Hazel Savage.

Our group meeting meeting will be on November 14 at 7pm in the Methodist Hall at St Keverne and the competitions are four rock cakes, a painted rock and a flower arrangement containing rocks no more than 12" x 12". New members and visitors are given a warm welcome and for more information contact. Rita Kelly 01326 280498.
