Morning prayer on Sunday was taken by the Rev Heather Aston and was accompanied by torrential rain, thunder and lightning.

The theme of the service was prayer and she started her sermon by remarking on how ancient churches have a fabric soaked in prayer which gives them a special atmosphere. The reading about the parable of the persistent widow, when Jesus told his disciples about their need to pray always and not to lose heart, emphasises the importance of regular and persistent prayer. It is also important to include silence in prayers, to listen for God’s reply. However His reply may not necessarily be what we want. Lessons were read by Wendy Bailey and the Rev Aston and the organ was played by Andrew Woods.

The service on Sunday will be a eucharist at 9.30am celebrated by the Rector, the Rev Lesley Walker.
