Our meeting this month was chaired by vice president Hazel Savage who started by introducing speaker Howard Curnow.
Howard spoke to the group on climate change and what can we do in Cornwall? Howard is part of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and he gave lots of statistics on the effects of global warming and how nature is re-acting to mankind with an example of fish which are dependent on the sea temperature such as Mackerel, which have now moved north to the colder seas. We can help in many ways by turning off lights or turning the fridge up a degree, turning off the TV and walking! At the end of the talk the members had lots of questions to put to Howard.
We then had a cup of tea served by Jackie and Gill and the business of the meeting was discussed. Dates for future activities were discussed and our charity for the year will be decided at the next meeting. Members also voted on our resolutions for this year. A reminder was given that the annual fee of £34.70 is now due.
Winners of the competition, A winter photograph: 1, Jean Dowling; 2, Pearl Woodyer; 3, Pam Kaley. Flower of the month: 1, Zoe Kevern; 2, Rita Kelly; 3, Jackie Allen.
Next month’s meeting will be on February 20 at 7.30pm in the Methodist Hall, St Keverne. The speaker will be Pam Berry on Upstairs, Downstairs Part 1 and the competition will be A pretty cup and saucer. New members are very welcome, for further information contact Rita Kelly on 01326 280498.
