BALWEST METHODIST CHURCH: Morning worship on Sunday was led by Irene Sampson, a local preacher in training. In her sermon Mrs Sampson spoke about The Good Shepherd. Accompanist was Jill Warden, who also gave and arranged the flowers. The congregation welcomed friends from Maryport, who were enjoying holidaying in the area. Plans are in hand for the chapel table display at the circuit exhibition on Saturday.

ASHTON CHURCH: Evensong on Sunday was taken by the Rev Dr Peter Johnson. Readers were Malcolm Hersee and Bevan Osborne. Margaret Goldsworthy was the organist and Malcolm was sidesman.

ASHTON SNOOKER CLUB: The club room, formerly the Zionist Chapel in Prospect Row suffered extensive damage caused by the strong winds ripping off tiles and guttering.

A number of youngsters meet here for practice during the summer and in the winter enter a team in the local league. T is estimated that the full repair job could be in the region of £12,000. The insurance will cover just over half of this, leaving the club to find the remainder. A fund raising drive has started with a quiz and raffle in the Lion and Lamb, thanks to Elaine and Graham which raised over £200. Dave Hart has done a 10K run on a trainer at Penzance Leisure Centre raising some sponsorship money. Trevor Coleman, better known as the village committee, has planned to do a 100K walk, sponsorship welcome.
