The meeting on Wednesday, July 2 welcomed PCSO Julia Berry as the speaker. She gave an interesting and informative talk on her work covering the Lizard.

The Helston area is teamed with Falmouth and as man-power has been reduced; fortunately crime is low. PCSO’s have a non-confrontational but high visibility role and deal with problems on a wide front. Boat-watch, farm-watch, warnings about scams, working with housing associations, safeguarding and trying to prevent anti-social behaviour, all form part of the work.

UV pens were distributed with advice about marking property and noting serial numbers of items such as televisions, computers and bicycles, as recovered stolen property can then be identified.

After supper, served by Beryl Lane and Mary Ferris, the business part of the meeting was held. Lunch at The Waymarker and the walk at Penare in June had been enjoyed and a lunch and a walk were suggested for later on this month. There was discussion about the group meeting in November with St Keverne WI.

The competition of the month was “for two ideas for reducing crime” won by Sue Barnes, and the flower of the month winners were Margaret Evans and Kathleen Worden.
