The eucharist service on Sunday was celebrated by the Rev Heather Aston who warmly welcomed the preacher, the Archdeacon of Cornwall, the Venerable Bill Stuart-White, to Mawgan.

In his sermon he used the short parables in the gospel reading from Matthew, which he described as “Fun-Size Parables”, to clarify the vision of the Truro diocese “Discovering God’s Kingdom and Growing the Church”. Jesus was constantly referring to the Kingdom, but it is small, like the treasure and pearls in the parables, and difficult to discover, always near but not easily discerned. However, it keeps growing like the mustard seed and yeast in the parables.

We should keep our eyes and ears open to spot examples of the Kingdom, become tour guides and show people where God is working and point out the good to others. As full-time Christians we should “look, find and tell” in order to grow the church.

The lessons were read by Wendy Bailey and Archdeacon Bill and the Rev Heather led the intercessions.

The service on Sunday at 11.15am will be the family service taken by the Rev Heather Aston.
