The July meeting started during a terrific thunderstorm with our speaker David Chapman a photographer, introducing his topic of Cornwall through the seasons.

He started by showing us the most fantastic photo taken at night and showing star trails. Wonderful views of the landscape followed this, depicting the plants and wildlife of our area with lots of interesting facts to go with them. David also had some wonderful shots of the birds that can be seen here, some are permanent residents and others just come to visit.

After David's talk we had a welcome cup of tea provided by Pat and Claire and the results of the competition 'A picture of a Cornish Harbour': 1, Marcia Williams; 2, Jackie Allen; 3, Pearl Woodyer. Flower of the month: 1, Zoe Kevern/ Rita Kelly; 2, Pearl Woodyer; 3, Barbel O'Hara/Jackie Allen.

With the thunderstorm still going on we started the business part of the meeting to find ourselves suddenly in darkness! One of our members used her mobile phone to give light to the secretary to read her letters and we manfully carried on organising outings and our cream tea afternoon in Porthoustock village hall on August 12 in aid of Penhaligon's Friends starting at 3pm. The next ladies who lunch will be on Tuesday, August 19 at Trellowarren meeting in the Band room car park.

There will be no monthly meeting in August the next meeting will be our Harvest Festival Service, Supper and Auction on Thursday, September 18 at 7.30pm in the Methodist Hall St Keverne. The competition will be an animal made out of vegetables. New members are always given a warm welcome for more information contact Rita Kelly on 01326 280498
