The eucharist service, which took place on Sunday was a very special service of celebration. Not only was it celebrating the Feast of All Saints' but it was also a celebration of the first communion of Mandy Basher.

The day before, at Truro Cathedral, thirteen people from all over Cornwall, including Mandy, were confirmed by Bishops Tim and Chris at a service which took the congregation on a journey round the cathedral. This simulated the journey in life moving from the place of Presentation and Decision (at the West Door), through the place of Baptism (the font) to the place of Confirmation in the centre of the cathedral.

The service was taken by the Rev Heather Aston who gave examples of the popular understanding of saints and martyrs. However, she reminded us, by references in the Bible, of how all believers in Christ are considered saints and they do not have to be dead. We, the ordinary faithful in God, are saints. Prior to the eucharistic prayer, the presentation part of the confirmation service was reprised for Mandy and at the end of the service she was presented with a certificate, candle, Bible and cards. Lessons were read by Lindsay Hockley and the Rev Aston.

On Sunday evening at the second service taken by the Rev Heather Aston, the Meneage Benefice joined in a service of Commemoration of the Departed. The service included the reading out of almost 100 names of people to be remembered. The preacher was the Rector, the Rev Lesley Walker, who talked of two ways of looking at life after death. By remembering our loved ones and keeping their memory alive in our lives, they will always be with us and part of us and thus have life after death. In the Christian sense we know that the transition from earth to heaven, whilst a physical separation, gives us hope and life after death to share with loved ones in the hereafter.

The service at the church on Sunday, Remembrance Sunday, will be a eucharist at 9.30am celebrated by the Rev Jem Thorold, who will also lead the service of Remembrance at Mawgan War Memorial at 10.50am, incorporating the two minutes silence.

There will be a coffee morning at the Vyvyan Coach House (outside Mawgan Church) on Saturday from 10.30am to noon with homemade cakes for sale.
